Why structured assessments

Most coaches assess
students in their head.

Indian sports coaches are typically excellent at evaluating players — they just don't write it down. Which means parents only hear opinions in passing, players don't have clear development goals, and the academy can't show concrete progress to justify fees or attract new students. Coach Assessments fixes this by giving coaches a 5-minute-per-student rubric they can fill in after each session or every term.

Why parents pay more for academies with assessments

Indian parents investing ₹3,000-15,000/month in coaching want evidence of progress. Without it, they're judging based on tournament results (which most kids don't have) or word-of-mouth. A structured quarterly assessment — even a simple 1-10 rating on 5 skill areas plus a 2-sentence coach note — completely changes the conversation. Academies that introduce structured assessments report fewer fee disputes, higher renewal rates, and easier upselling of premium programs. The ₹299/mo add-on typically pays for itself in retention within the first quarter.

What it includes

Five-minute reviews.

Coaches don't have an hour per student. The assessment module is designed for 3-5 minutes per student per session or per term — quick to fill, structured to track, visible to everyone who matters.

1 · Custom rubrics.
Per sport, per age group.

Configure assessment templates per sport and age group. Cricket U-14 might rate Batting / Bowling / Fielding / Fitness / Game Sense. Tennis U-10 might rate Strokes / Footwork / Tactical / Match Play. Each rubric uses 5-10 dimensions on a 1-10 scale.

  • 5-10 customisable dimensions per rubric
  • 1-10 numerical scale (or A-E, or your custom scale)
  • Different rubrics per age group within a sport
  • Free-text "coach notes" field on every assessment
  • Photo / video attachment optional

3 · Goal-setting per student.
Skills to build next.

Questions

Coach Assessments · FAQ.

The questions Indian academy owners ask most before signing up.

How long does one assessment take?+
3-5 minutes per student per term, on average. Quick-rating coaches use the 1-10 sliders for each skill dimension in about 90 seconds. More detailed coaches add a 1-2 sentence note in another 2-3 minutes. The module is intentionally designed for high-volume use — a coach with 30 students should finish all term-end assessments in under 2 hours.
Per-session or only at term-end?+
Both are supported. Some academies have coaches do a quick rating after every session (the system averages across the term for the report). Others do one detailed assessment at term-end. The module supports either workflow — choose what fits your coaching culture. Most academies start with term-end-only and migrate to per-session over time as coaches get comfortable.
What do parents see?+
Configurable. Default: parents see the term-end aggregated report with skill ratings, narrative note, goals, and quarter-over-quarter delta. They don't see individual per-session ratings (that's coach-internal). Some academies open per-session ratings to parents too — that's a setting under "Parent visibility" in admin.
What rubrics come pre-built?+
Sport-specific rubrics for Badminton, Cricket, Tennis, Football, Pickleball, and Swimming come pre-built with 6-8 dimensions per age group. You can use them as-is, modify them, or build your own from scratch. Most academies use the pre-built rubric for their first term, then customise for their specific coaching philosophy.
Does it work for swimming?+
Yes. The rubric model adapts to any sport. Swimming academies typically rate strokes, breathing, turns, distance per stroke, fitness, and pool discipline. We have a pre-built swimming rubric for Beginner / Intermediate / Advanced levels. Same for athletics, gymnastics, and other individual sports.
Can I bulk-fill assessments?+
Yes. The bulk-assessment view shows all students in a batch as rows, all rubric dimensions as columns. A coach can move down the list filling ratings without re-loading each student. Saves significant time at term-end. Per-student notes are still entered individually.
Can I export the data?+
Yes. Export to Excel (per-student, per-batch, per-term, or full academy). Useful for parent meetings, board reviews, or feeding into other analytics tools. The full assessment history can also be exported as PDFs for archival.
Does this replace Coach Payroll?+
No — they're separate modules. Coach Payroll (₹599/mo) handles salaries paid to coaches. Coach Assessments (₹299/mo) handles assessments coaches do of students. They can be used together, separately, or not at all. Many academies start with Assessments first because of its impact on parent retention.
